Sabbaticals Scheme for Welsh Language Training

The aim of this scheme sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government is to increase the number of bilingual teachers, lecturers and work-based learning training providers in Wales.
The course will give practitioners confidence to do the following:

• use the Welsh language for teaching, assessment and general administrative purposes
• use terminology for their subject effectively
• use Welsh medium and bilingual teaching methodologies with confidence

Who is eligible?

• primary and secondary teachers (including supply staff); further education lecturers; work- based learning training providers; higher education lecturers (distance learning only)
• fluent Welsh speakers (first and second language)

Two types of training:

• intensive three month training course
• distance learning course with residential elements (three months)

The courses are held at:

• Bangor University (Canolfan Bedwyr)
• Cardiff University (School of Welsh)

Fully funded:

All supply cover, travel and accommodation costs associated with the training are fully funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
